With a little insder knowledge and guidance, you can find cheap hotels in Las Vegas. You can even make an art of it.

The first thing to know is that with all hotels, rates are cheaper during the week, from Sunday thru Thursday. Rates are often 2 ½ times higher and up on weekends, so if there’s any way to come during the week, you will save a lot. Also be aware that during big conventions, Super Bowl weekends, etc, hotel rates skyrocket. They come right back down afterwards however. Conventions to be particularly aware of are CES in mid-November, and Comdex in early January.

The Strip – If you are dead-set on being on the strip, you can save a ton by staying at one of the casinos on the north end of the strip. Check first at the Stratosphere, then Circus Circus, then the Sahara. Just for fun, compare them to somewhere further south like Treasure Island or the MGM, and you’ll see a huge difference. Also for a good southern-strip rate, try the Excalibur.

If you don’t mind staying off the strip, check the Orleans or the Station Casinos. The Orleans can save you a bunch, it’s nice and it’s not too far off the strip. Some of the better cheap hotels in Las Vegas are the Station Casinos – a few of their Casinos like the Red Rock are pricey, but others are very reasonable, it just depends on how far off the strip to a large degree – the good part is that you can check them all at once on their website if you like.

If you want to stay downtown on Fremont, check Fitzgeralds. Their rates have been super-low lately. Also in that area with cheap hotel rates is the Western.

Time of Year - The cheap times of the year in Vegas are first of all the scorching hot months of July and August, when you won’t want to stand outside for more than a few seconds at a time. Anyway, you don’t come to Vegas for the great outdoors. Also the early-to-mid part of December before the Holidays kick in is traditionally a time for cheap hotels in Las Vegas.

Supply and demand - You’re also going to want to avoid the holiday or special weekends like Super Bowl Sunday weekend if you are looking for cheap hotels in Las Vegas. There are also two huge convention times, COMDEX in early January and CES in mid-November that you'll want to avoid.

Another great tip that may not do you any good right now but will in the future is to get on the Casinos’ mailing lists by signing up for a Player’s card and using it a little while you’re there. It is quick and easy to get a card, and you’ll forever get first notice of all their freebie and special offers. Every Casino you go into, even if you’re just going to do a little gambling, get a card and use it while you’re there. You can get all kinds of offers such as 2 for 1 buffet deals, etc. You’ll also be the first to know when business is slow because you’ll be getting all kinds of great offers!

There’s really no reason to pay huge prices for a room when there are so many ways to get cheap hotels in Vegas. Why not save all of that extra money for the Casino – the cash you save could be what hits you your jackpot!
